Baronial Palace

Loading map...

The construction of the castle — which was later transformed into the Gallotti-De Stefano Baronial Palace during the 15th century — dates back to the 14th century, specifically to the period when the historic center was fortified.

The stately palace stands in the heart of the town; it features a central courtyard and, on the upper floor, a charming portico flanked by rooms that still retain their original furnishings, including wooden ceilings and frescoes. In the courtyard, accessed through a portal dated 1708, visitors can admire a private noble chapel, recently restored and dedicated to Our Lady of Grace, which houses a wooden statue dating back to the 17th century.

The 14th-century building has dominated Piazza Piano La Porta — Morigerati’s central square — since the 15th century. Its stones tell the story of the lives and history of the noble families who lived there. In the castle’s most beautiful wing — whose door remains open to this day — Clorinda and Modestina Florenzano once lived: the two local teachers to whom we owe the founding of the Ethnographic Museum of Peasant Culture.

It can always be visited via the inner courtyard. The interior spaces are currently under renovation.
