The sanctuary, located on Mount Pittari, includes the Grotta di San Michele and the Grotta dellāAngelo. Although they have different names, the two caves share a number of religious functions and overlook the spring of the WWF āGrotte del Bussentoā Oasis in Morigerati. In front of both caves is a 19th-century masonry plaza.
The Cave of San Michele, which extends horizontally, is accessible through an iron gate leading to a tunnel approximately 10 meters long. At the end of the tunnel lies an irregular chamber with walls covered in stalactites and stalagmites and a natural column in the center, against which a votive altar is placed, resembling the nave of an ancient church. Here there is a lustral basin, ruins of masonry work, and a 12th-century bas-relief situated next to the altar.
The Grotta dellāAngelo extends for 49 meters, with an entrance closed off by a small gate. At the entrance, a small votive altar featuring angels is visible. The passageway curves widely and ends toward the north.
