Antico Frantoio - Home of the Ecomuseum
Loading map...
A green ribbon of iron winds its way through the Antico Frantoio — a historic building in Morigerati dating from around the late 18th century and now home to the Transluoghi Ecomuseum — serving as a visual and symbolic guide for visitors.
The ribbon intertwines with the local stone, following the contours of the walls and passing through the historic machinery used for olive pressing. Small informational panels are affixed to it, explaining the multimedia content of the exhibition — creating a path that invites visitors to explore the stories and itineraries of the Ecomuseum. The panels, secured to the iron support using magnets, allow for a secure connection that can be easily updated over time.
The multimedia setup of the space consists of 3 monitors, a touchscreen kiosk, and 4 augmented reality headsets. The headsets are housed inside four cube-shaped wooden seats, designed to enhance the immersive experience. The cubes — carved from a single wooden panel using the kerfing technique — can be rotated to allow visitors to make the most of the VR headsets, and feature perforations to create interesting plays of light.
Outside the venue, visitors can take a seat on a series of stackable benches, which can be easily rearranged depending on the use of indoor and outdoor spaces.
Rounding out the installation are brochure holders and other storage units designed to house electrical equipment.
The design of the Transluoghi venue installation was overseen physically by Giancarlo Guadagno, Simona Quagliano, and Ilaria Spagnuolo, and for the audiovisual aspects by Daniele G. De Stefano — is in perfect harmony with the Ecomuseum’s graphic identity in its use of both symbols and colors, employing a unique visual language adapted for various forms of communication.
AUDIOVISUAL EXHIBITION
The screens installed at the Ecomuseum’s headquarters serve as a first gateway to the cultural and landscape heritage of the Morigerati and Sicilì area. Visitors can explore the multimedia content on their own — either by following their own sequence or by following the numbered itinerary created by the curators.
Screen #1 explains the concept of an Ecomuseum and recounts the origins of the Transluoghi project.
Screen #2 presents the Ecomuseum’s system of seven cultural and environmental trails, describing the locations and offering a 3D representation of the routes — accompanied by a series of technical details regarding the level of difficulty, estimated times, points of interest along the trails, and an explanatory key for the logos and icons used to represent them.
Screen #3 is positioned vertically to allow for the viewing of multimedia content that differs — including in format — from that displayed on screens 1 and 2, which is more informational and graphically oriented. These are brief biographies of the town’s residents, who are actively involved in the Transluoghi project: portraits that recount their dedication to the area’s social and cultural context, their relationship with the local territory, and the life experiences that led them to settle in these places. The video stories are the result of a residency focused on local storytelling and videomaking organized by the Transluoghi Ecomuseum.
The latest audiovisual installation features five VR headsets, designed to give visitors the chance to view the area from new and hard-to-reach angles — without in any way attempting to replace the real-life experience of unspoiled nature and encounters with people. From bird’s-eye views of mountains to deep underwater dives: among the VR videos is a 360° descent into the Grotta della Risorgenza del Bussento alongside speleologists from the Tetide Aps Association.
