Valle della Lontra Trail

An intermunicipal loop trail, with a total length of about 20 km, that crosses four municipalities and hamlets in the lower Cilento region, following in the tracks of the otter.

The trail starts at the “Capelli di Venere” Nature Reserve in Casaletto Spartano, follows the course of the Bussentino River, passes through the municipality of Tortorella and the Farneto Forest, and finally reaches the medieval bridge in Morigerati.

It then heads uphill to reach the WWF “Grotte del Bussento” Nature Reserve — where you can witness the resurgence of the karst river that, from the sinkhole at Caselle in Pittari, disappears underground and embarks on its mysterious subterranean journey, only to reappear about 7 km further south.

Morigerati is the destination and the starting point for the return journey to Casaletto Spartano.

For the return trip, about 100 meters from Piazza Piano alla Porta, the route follows a loop — passing through the Morigerati Cemetery, the San Menale area, the Sisamo area, and ending once again at the “Capelli di Venere” Nature Reserve in Casaletto Spartano.
